July 8, 2025. On July 7, 2025, the Mikhnevo Geophysical Observatory was officially included in the list of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA). The observatory has been assigned the identification code MHV.

The inclusion of the observatory in the IAGA list will enhance its status, as well as the status of the entire Russian segment of stationary geomagnetic observatories in the international scientific community.

"This is an international overview list of geomagnetic observatories, the data of which are used in various studies of the external and internal magnetic fields of the Earth. Our presence in it gives us the opportunity to exchange data and scientific experience at the international level," commented PhD Dmitry Kudin, the Chief of the Geophysical Monitoring Sector at the Geophysical Center RAS.

The Mikhnevo Observatory, located in the Moscow Region, was launched in the summer of 2023 as part of scientific cooperation between the Geophysical Center RAS and the Academician M. A. Sadovsky Institute of Geosphere Dynamics RAS on the basis of the Mikhnevo Geophysical Polygon. Today the modern observatory allows high-precision observations of magnetic field parameters. It records high-quality 1-second sampled data. The observatory was deployed taking into account the many years of experience gained by specialists of the GC RAS and the recommendations of the International Real-time Magnetic Observatory Network (INTERMAGNET). The observatory's data is used not only to monitor geomagnetic activity but may also become a source of unique information about the evolution of the geomagnetic field in the future.
