A team of researchers has studied the reduction in the area of the Caspian Sea and the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay for the period 1993–2025. The lead author of the scientific article is Professor, D.Sc. Andrey Kostianoy, Leading Research Scientist at the Geophysical Center RAS and Chief Research Scientist at the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS.

From June 29 to July 7, 2026, scientists of the Geophysical Center RAS took part in the field section of the III International Scientific Conference "Dobretsov Readings: Science Firsthand", held in Novosibirsk and the Altai Mountains.

A special issue of the Russian Journal of Earth Sciences has been published, dedicated to a comprehensive study of the Kamchatka megathrust earthquake – the world's first seismic event of such magnitude that did not result in human casualties. This was made possible largely due to the work of Academician of RAS Sergey Fedotov, whose 95th anniversary the scientific community celebrates this year. The collection presents the results of scientific research on the Kamchatka megathrust earthquake conducted over the past year.
