October 2, 2026. On September 29, 2026, Chief Research Scientist of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Pushkov Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation RAS, D.Sc., Professor Yuri Anatolyevich Kopytenko (22.08.1939 – 29.09.2026) passed away.

Yuri Kopytenko was a world-renowned scientist, a specialist in the study of the spatiotemporal structure of geomagnetic disturbances and their physical nature. Scientists of the Geophysical Center RAS collaborated closely with Yuri Kopytenko for many years in the field of magnetic field research and in organizing and maintaining the operation of the St. Petersburg Geomagnetic Observatory.

The staff of the GC RAS expresses its sincere condolences to the colleagues, family, and loved ones of Yuri Kopytenko.
