October 13, 2026. The pavilion was launched as part of a scientific meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the "Rotkovets" geobiosphere station of the N. P. Laverov Federal Center for Integrated Arctic Research UB RAS (FCIARctic UB RAS). The new pavilion of the "Klimovskaya" observatory, established by the Geophysical Center RAS on the basis of the station, will make it possible to test domestic scientific equipment and will improve the reliability and quality of geomagnetic observations. These data are needed to study the evolution of the Earth's magnetic field and the effects of space weather, as well as to protect Arctic infrastructure from failures during strong geomagnetic disturbances.

The large-scale meeting was organized by FCIARctic UB RAS on October 7–8 in the Konoshsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast.

The "Rotkovets" geobiosphere station was created on the initiative of the outstanding scientist Academician of RAS Nikolay Laverov, Vice-President of RAS in 1988–2013. Today, comprehensive geophysical, geoecological, geodetic, biological, and medical research is conducted on its basis.

The key event of the meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the station was the ceremonial opening of the new measurement pavilion of the "Klimovskaya" geomagnetic observatory of the Geophysical Center of RAS. It was attended by the Director, Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev, and the Director of FCIARctic UB RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Ivan Bolotov. Honorary guests at the event included the President of the Lomonosov Public Foundation, Corresponding Member of RAS Konstantin Lobanov, and representatives of the administration of Konoshsky District led by its head Sergey Edemsky. During the event, Anatoly Soloviev introduced the participants to the observatory's measurement infrastructure, noting the importance of this unique observation point for the international scientific community.

The new pavilion of the "Klimovskaya" observatory will make it possible to conduct parallel measurements of the Earth's magnetic field parameters using several instruments, which corresponds to generally accepted world practice.

"This refines the data and improves the reliability of the observatory's operation," explained the Head of the Laboratory of the Geophysical Monitoring of the GC RAS, PhD Dmitry Kudin. "The new pavilion provides the opportunity to conduct experimental studies of scientific instruments. A pressing task now is the development of Russian magnetometric equipment that can match foreign instruments in quality."
