June 23-26, 2018. Director of GC RAS Academician A. D. Gvishiani and Deputy Director for Science Corresponding Member of RAS A. A. Soloviev participated in the 32nd Conference on Mathematical Geophysics (CMG) of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).
The conference takes place every two years, and in 2018 the place of the meeting was the motor ship "Nizhny Novgorod" (Figure 1), which cruised along the river Volga from Nizhny Novgorod to Kalyazin and back. The organizer was the Federal Research Center of the Institute of Applied Physics of RAS (Nizhny Novgorod).
Academician A. D. Gvishiani delivered a plenary report "Significant, strong and strongest earthquake-prone areas recognition: systems analysis aspects" and a presentation "INTERMAGNET for directional drilling in the polar region". Corresponding member of RAS A. A. Soloviev (Figure 3) made an invited presentation titled "Mathematical tools for analysis of ground-based and satellite geomagnetic data streams for advanced monitoring of the Earth's magnetic field".
The CMG conference is traditionally aimed at the exchange of ideas and information in all areas of geophysics with an emphasis on the application of mathematics, statistics and computer sciences to geophysical tasks. CMG promotes the development and application of mathematical methods and relevant theoretical approaches to solving problems of the entire spectrum of geophysical disciplines.
