January 30, 2025. On January 30, 2025, Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit held a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation on scientific and technological development of the transport industry. There was discussed minimizing pollution due to the oil spill in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024.

Director of the GC RAS, Member of the Scientific Council of RAS "Environment and Transport", Corresponding Member of RAS, Professor of RAS Anatoly Soloviev took part in the discussion.

During the meeting, there were considered some options for the disposal of sunken tanker parts. In particular, there were highlighted environmental aspects of the spill, the condition of tankers, and world experience in eliminating the consequences of such shipwrecks.
