On November 15–16, 2021, the General Assembly of the Data Committee of the International Council for Science (CODATA ISC) was held. The event was organized online. The event was attended by the official delegates of the national committees of CODATA, as well as the International Unions of the International Council for Science. The 2021 delegate from the CODATA National Committee was the Director of the Geophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GC RAS), Corr. RAS Anatoly Alexandrovich Solovyov. Also in the program and organization of the event was the Vice President of CODATA, Deputy Director for Development of the GC RAS Ph.D. Alena Igorevna Rybkina.

On the first day of the General Assembly, the preliminary results of voting on financial and organizational issues were presented. This concerned the system for calculating categories of national contributions, as well as the voting results for new working groups that will receive financial support from CODATA in 2022-2023. Not all applications passed, but we are pleased to note that the General Assembly supported the working group on advanced data systems analysis and new mathematical methods, led by Corresponding Member. RAS Doctor of Technical Sciences Professor Igor Anatolyevich Sheremet.

New CODATA Academic Secretary Christine Kirkpatrick (USA) and CODATA Treasurer Steven McEachern (Australia) were also elected. They succeeded Bonnie Caroll (USA) and John Broom (Canada) in these important positions, who had been performing their duties for more than 10 years.

We are pleased to note that Elena Alexandrovna Rovenskaya, Ph.D., was elected a member of the CODATA Executive Committee. Now Elena Alexandrovna works at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria (IIASA), but continues to actively cooperate with RAS institutes and Russian universities.

The second day of the General Assembly was devoted to reports on the activities of CODATA, where the most important results and achievements for 2 years were presented. Among the important achievements is the recent virtual conference SciDataCon 2021, which was attended by more than 1300 research scientists, including a presentation by the Chairman of the National Committee CODATA, Scientific Director of the GC RAS, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ph.D. Aleksey Dzhermenovich Gvishiani and Vice President of CODATA, Deputy Director for Development of the GC RAS Ph.D. Alena Igorevna Rybkina.

As a result of the event, the importance of conducting joint research and intensifying cooperation with CODATA national committees, as well as with leading international organizations in the field of data sciences, which actively supported research in the field of COVID-19 data dissemination and the development of applied aspects of the implementation of the principles of Open Data and FAIR, was noted.

In 2022, the largest conference in this field, International Data Week, is planned. The event will take place in a hybrid format on June 20-23 in Seoul, Korea.
