Potential contributors are invited to participate in the formation of a special issue of Applied Sciences. Please note that the deadline for submitting articles to the special issue "Geoinformatics and Data Mining in Earth Sciences" of the journal "Applied Sciences" has been extended until January 31, 2023!

Special Issue Guest Editors:

  • Scientific Supervisor of the GC RAS, Academician of the RAS Aleksey Dzhermenovich Gvishiani;
  • Deputy Director for Science, GC RAS, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Boris Arkadyevich Dzeboev.

The special issue "Geoinformatics and Data Mining in Earth Sciences" is dedicated to a wide range of research in the field of data mining in the earth sciences: systems analysis, geoinformatics, data mining, Big Data and much more.

“The modern intensive accumulation of data on a wide range of observations in the geosciences requires up-to-date methods for their comprehensive intellectual analysis. Of particular importance is the analysis of data on natural hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, avalanches, landslides, geomagnetic storms, volcanic eruptions, mudflows, ground subsidence, floods, forest fires, tornadoes, etc. Analysis, assessment and forecasting of natural hazards are vital problems in the earth sciences. The special issue is aimed at forming an overview of modern approaches to data analysis, in relation to a wide range of disciplines in the geosciences.

Articles on the application of systems analysis methods, geographic information systems, data mining, various aspects of Big Data, etc. are welcome in a special issue. Particular attention is paid to the preservation of historical geodata. Original papers from various fields of geosciences and data sciences are welcome. Articles dealing with interdisciplinary problems are especially welcome. Of particular interest are articles devoted to the applications of the theory and practice of Big Data in the geosciences,” the editors of the issue note.
