January 31, 2024. On January 31, 2024, Member of the Presidium of RAS, Academician of RAS Alexander Gliko visited the Geophysical Center of RAS and delivered the lecture «Discovery of the Earth: Stellar Milestones» at the Scientific Seminar of the GC RAS.

During the lecture, Academician of RAS Alexander Gliko talked about the critical moments when the efforts of outstanding scientists had achieved major breakthroughs and overcome the barriers that stood in the way of scientific knowledge. The lecturer mentioned the shape of the Earth and the research of Newton and Clare on this issue, Cavendish's determination of the density of the Earth, the invention of the first imperfect seismographs, the creation of the first modern seismograph by Prince Boris Golitsyn, and much more.
