February 6, 2024. We deeply regret to inform you that on February 6, 2024, Corresponding Member of RAS Gennady Alexandrovich Sobolev passed away. An outstanding Soviet and Russian geophysicist and seismologist, he was a prominent specialist in the fields of exploration geophysics, earthquake source physics, and the study of processes of destruction in the Earth's crust. The results of his fruitful long-term research have made a significant contribution to the development of a number of areas in the field of Earth sciences.

From 1958, G. A. Sobolev worked as an employee of the Sсhmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of RAS, in 1992–1997 – the Director of the Institute of Seismology (the United Sсhmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of RAS).

From 1990 to 2004, Gennady Sobolev was the Director of the Geophysical Center of RAS.

The staff of the GC RAS mourns the loss and expresses deep condolences to colleagues, relatives, and friends of the scientist.
