April 11, 2024. In 2023, the Russian Journal of Earth Sciences (RJES) celebrated its anniversary. The editorial board, headed by Editor-in-Chief Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani, published a special issue dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the journal as the first issue in 2024.

In 1998, RJES was first published, with the support of the Sсhmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of RAS. It was founded by Editor-in-Chief, Professor Andrey Grachev and Vitaly Nechitaylenko. Its main advantage was that the magazine was electronic. This made it possible to reduce the time from submission to publication in comparison with printed editions. The issue included animation and color illustrations. RJES was almost a decade ahead of other scientific journals, publishing presentations with multimedia and interactive content.

The main purpose of the journal is to convey to the international scientific community the results of scientific research obtained by Russian scientists. Articles by foreign authors and international scientific groups are also accepted for publication. Works devoted to general problems of Earth sciences and research in Northern Eurasia are particularly welcome. RJES is included in the first quartile (Q1) of the academic ranking of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). In the RSCI consolidated ranking, RJES ranks 143 out of 931 journals. In the thematic ranking "OECD 105. Earth and Related Environmental Sciences", RJES is ranked 21 out of 61 journals.

Today, the journal is included in such leading citation databases as Scopus, Web of Science, RSCI, and GeoRef. It has high scientometric indicators. It is included in the 3rd quartile of the he SCImago Journal Rank and has CiteScore = 2.0.

The editorial board of the journal invites authors and readers from Russian and international research institutes and universities to cooperate.
