October 23, 2024. Scientists explore the Earth's magnetic field near observatories in order to assess the quality of their data. In particular, the Klimovskaya Observatory, one of the best geomagnetic observatories in Russia, was chosen for the study.
On October 14–21, 2024, scientists of the Geophysical Center of RAS, together with their colleagues from the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth RAS, conducted a series of geophysical studies in the vicinity of the Klimovskaya Observatory in Arkhangelsk Oblast.
For the subsequent interpretation of geomagnetic data, there were conducted aerial and lidar photography as well as a ground-based magnetic survey.
During the expedition, training was held for employees of the mentioned institutes, as well as students of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography.
The results will make it possible to clarify the structure of the anomalous magnetic field near the observatory and improve the quality of its data. This will serve further study of the Earth's magnetic field.
