October 3, 2024. On September 25–27, 2024, the International Conference "Data Science, Geoinformatics and Systems Analysis in Geosciences" was held in the city of Suzdal. The event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Geophysical Center RAS and the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Leading scientists from Russia and abroad discussed current issues of Earth sciences.
The total number of participants and guests of the conference was almost 200, including 19 members of RAS. The event was attended by scientists from 30 Russian cities, as well as from Austria, India, China, and the Republic of South Africa. More than 130 oral and poster presentations were made at 11 scientific sessions.
During the sessions, there were discussed topical issues of natural and man-made disasters, the interaction of the environment and transport, and the use of geoinformatics methods in Earth sciences. The latest scientific achievements were presented at a session dedicated to system analysis and Big Data. Special attention was paid to the Arctic. The issues of studying the Earth's magnetosphere and space weather were considered. Equipment in Earth sciences has become an important topic. A session was devoted to the oil, gas, and mining complexes.
An exhibition of Russian scientific production was held within the framework of the conference. In particular, the GC RAS presented its development ORBUS-PRO, a platform for interactive 3D visualization of global geospatial data.
«This gathering brought together a diverse group of researchers and professionals, and it was evident from the outset that the exchange of ideas would be dynamic and enriching. I felt privileged to play a part in fostering an environment that encouraged open dialogue and cooperation,» noted Dr. Amoré Nel, a research scientist at the South African National Space Agency (SANSA).
The organizer was the GC RAS with the support of RAS, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian University of Transport, and the Tyazhpressmash Scientific and Technical Center.
The GC RAS was established in 1954 as the Interdepartmental Geophysical Committee (IGC) of AS USSR for the preparation and conduct of the International Geophysical Year. Today, GC RAS is the leading scientific organization in our country in the field of fundamental research and applied developments in geophysics, geoinformatics, and system analysis.
