April 28, 2025. On April 24–25, 2025, the Karelian Research Centre RAS (Petrozavodsk) hosted events within the framework of the meeting of the RAS Scientific Council for the Study of the Arctic and Antarctic (the Council).
The conference "Environmental Problems of the Arctic Territories" took place on April 24. The event was opened by an introductory speech by Member of the Bureau of the Council, Director of the GC RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev.
On April 25, there was a Joint Meeting of the Council and the Karelian Research Centre RAS. Scientific Secretary of the Council, Deputy Director for Science of the GC RAS, D.Sc. Boris Dzeboev made a report on the activities of the Council in 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
Senior research scientist of the GC RAS, PhD Natalya Fomenko took an active part in organizing the conference.
Background information. The Council was created at the Presidium of RAS in 2013. The Council was established for planning and coordination of fundamental scientific research of the polar regions of the Earth. The Council is chaired by Chief Scientist of the GC RAS Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani, the honorary chairman is Academician of RAS Vladimir Kotlyakov, and the scientific secretary is D.Sc. Boris Dzeboev.
