26 December, 2025. On December 26, 2025, the traditional General Meeting of the staff of the Geophysical Center of RAS was held in the RAS Presidium building.
Nina Zaitseva, D.Sc., the chief specialist of the RAS Department of Earth Sciences, congratulated GC RAS on behalf of the Department.
Director of the GC RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev presented a report titled "Results of the GC RAS Activities in 2025".
In 2025, Senior Research Scientist Ilya Losev successfully defended his thesis.
The GC RAS conducted collaborative work with representatives of the industrial sector, as well as research and educational organizations, fulfilling 13 contracts.
An agreement was signed with TerraTech, opening new opportunities for developing applied research projects and expanding scientific work in the field of Earth remote sensing.
Publishing activities remained vigorous. Notably, the Russian Journal of Earth Sciences was included in the first-level journals of the White List and in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). A total of 123 research papers were published in the journal in 2025.
The development of Earth sciences databases continued. Scientists digitized over 16,000 magnetogram images from 1963–1994, updated earthquake databases for seismically active regions of the former USSR (1957–1991), and digitized approximately 40,000 documents containing ionospheric, geomagnetic, and seismological data, among other database updates.
Numerous expeditions were carried out in the Arkhangelsk, Irkutsk, and Sverdlovsk regions, the republics of Karelia, North Ossetia – Alania, and Sakha (Yakutia), the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and other regions. The infrastructure of the Mikhnevo and Klimovskaya geomagnetic observatories was modernized.
The GC RAS organized a series of scientific events. On September 22–24, the V All-Russian School of Young Scientists "System Analysis of the Dynamics of Natural Processes in the Russian Arctic" was held in Moscow. On November 13–14, the GC RAS organized the "Exolith-2025" conference. 11 scientific seminars were held under the chairmanship of Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani, Chief Scientist of the GC RAS.
The ORBUS-PRO multimedia projection platform for spherical visualization, developed by the GC RAS, became part of the permanent collection of the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad. It was also demonstrated at the exhibition during the 5th Congress of Young Scientists in Sirius.
In 2025, the scientists of the GC RAS authored 99 research articles and book chapters, as well as two monographs. They also secured 23 databases and software state registration certificates.
GC RAS staff members received awards. Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani was awarded the commemorative medal "For Works Retribution" on the occasion of the 260th anniversary of the Free Economic Society of Russia. Awards from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation were presented to: Deputy Director for Science, D.Sc. Boris Dzeboev – the medal "For Impeccable Work and Distinction"; Chief Human Resources Specialist Vera Dasaeva – the Commendation.
Anatoly Soloviev highlighted the key scientific results achieved by GC RAS scientists in 2025. The most significant results submitted to the RAS Department of Earth Sciences were:
- A methodology for constructing forecast maps of isoseists of epicentral zones of strong crustal earthquakes, based on stress-strain modeling data (D.Sc. Vladislav Morozov, Alexander Manevich).
- A 6-year quasi-periodicity in geomagnetic secular acceleration bursts at the core-mantle boundary, derivered from over 90 years of observational data (Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev, PhD Roman Sidorov, PhD Shamil Bogoutdinov).
The GC RAS Scientific Council also recognized several key institutional achievements:
- A climatic atlas of retrospective and projected changes in the main hydrometeorological parameters of the western sector of the Russian Arctic (1950–2064), developed to support transport infrastructure development (Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani, Corresponding Members of RAS Igor Rosenberg and Anatoly Soloviev, D.Sc. Andrey Kostyanoy, Olga Shevaldysheva, Sofia Gvozdik, D.Sc. Sergey Lebedev, and PhD Roman Krasnoperov).
- A lithospheric thickness model across northeastern Eurasia (D.Sc. Mikhail Kaban, PhD Alexey Petrunin, PhD Roman Sidorov, Olga Shevaldysheva, Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev, Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani).
- A model of condensational growth of water droplets in the Earth's atmosphere (PhD Dmitry Gabyshev).
Anatoly Soloviev spoke about these and numerous other accomplishments of the GC RAS staff. In conclusion, the director congratulated the staff on the upcoming New Year, wishing them optimism and inspiration for new scientific endeavors, all the best for their families and friends, harmony at home, and good health.
