September 27, 2016. Director of GC RAS Academician Alexei Gvishiani congratulated Mekhanobr Institute with its 100th anniversary. In his congratulatory speech Alexei Dzhermenovich paid particular attention to the important role of the institute in the history of our country, and underlined the international contribution of Mekhanobr and its participation in solving important geopolitical problems.
Mekhanobr laid the foundation for the industrialization of the Soviet Union, developing the country's largest processing plants, played a significant role in supplying the military industry with ferrous and nonferrous metals during the Great Patriotic War. Designing and launching the largest in Eurasia copper and molybdenum processing plant at Erdenet mine in Mongolia, as well as the largest joint economic project on construction of Kostomuksha ore-dressing plant on the border of Karelia and Finland have become examples of successful contribution by Mekhanobr to solution of not only industrial, but also geopolitical problems. Alexei Dzhermenovich also noted that the current head of Mekhanobr Leonid Abramovich Vaisberg personally took part in both projects. Alexej Dzhermenovich mentioned other scientists who made a great contribution to the success of Mekhanobr: Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Vasilyevich Rundkvist, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Vladimir Ivanovich Revnivtsev and others.
Director of GC RAS addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mekhanobr, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leonid Abramovich Vaisberg with the most warm words, congratulated all managers and employees of Mekhanobr with a wonderful holiday - the hundredth anniversary, and handed Leonid Vaisberg a memorable gift — a rare medal of the International Geophysical Year.
