July 21, 2020. Following a vote by the members of the Council of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Director of GC RAS Corresponding Member of RAS A. A. Soloviev was unanimously elected to the position of IUGG Liaison Officer to the Committee on Data for Science and Technology, CODATA, replacing A. I. Rybkina in this position.

The duties of the liaison officer include: attendance of working meetings (General Assemblies, meetings of the Executive Committee, etc.) in order to represent the interests of IUGG and establish new contacts; participation in discussions related to geodesy and geophysics, based on the long-term experience of IUGG; organization of events by IUGG and CODATA for the joint activities; participation (together with the President and the Secretary General) in the procedures for appointing new candidates for the IUGG positions and nominating candidates for awards; preparation of relevant reports, etc. The appointment came into effect on July 17, 2020 and is valid until the 28th IUGG General Assembly, which will take place in 2023.
