May 18, 2024.Prof. D.Sc. Vladislav Nikolaevich Morozov, a Principal Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Geodynamics at the Geophysical Center of RAS, a prominent specialist in the field of geomechanics and geodynamics, celebrates his anniversary on May 18, 2024.

Vladislav Nikolaevich was born in Moscow on May 18, 1939. In 1962, he graduated from the Geophysical Faculty of the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute. He began his career on the Pechersk Geophysical Expedition and continued at the Institute of Raw Mineral Synthesis (Mingeo USSR). From 1965, at the Institute of Physics of the Earth of the USSR Academy of Sciences, he studied mechanical and electrical processes in the Earth's crust.

Vladislav Nikolaevich defended his PhD thesis in 1970. He actively developed kinetic concepts of the mechanics of the deformation and destruction of rocks. From 1973, he headed the Laboratory of Rock Destruction at the Moscow State Mining University, combining scientific work with teaching.

In 1986, Vladislav Nikolaevich moved to the VNIIpromtechnologii Research Institute. He focused on the problems of geomechanics related to the safety of mining and the disposal of radioactive waste. In 1990, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis and received the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences.

Since 1992, Vladislav Nikolaevich Morozov has been working at the Geophysical Center of RAS. He held the positions of Deputy Director for Science (1992–2005), Head of the Geoecology Laboratory (1992–2014), and Principal Research Scientist (up to the present time). At the Geophysical Center of RAS, he developed a new approach to mathematical modeling of the stress-strain state of the Earth's crust. This method has been widely applied to the study of seismically active areas and earthquake forecasting.

Vladislav Nikolaevich is the author of more than 195 scientific papers, including articles, monographs, and inventions. His contribution to the development of the nuclear industry was marked in 2016 with the badge of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. For many years, Vladislav Nikolaevich has been passionate not only about science and teaching but also about painting. The Geophysical Center of RAS sincerely congratulates Vladislav Nikolaevich Morozov on his birthday. We wish you good health, further scientific success, and well-being. May his outstanding achievements continue to inspire the younger generation of scientists and contribute to the progress of Russian science.
