August 27, 2025. An earthquake struck the Republic of Dagestan on August 26.

D.Sc. Boris Dzeboev, Deputy Director for Science of the Geophysical Center RAS, told "Vestnik ONZ RAS" about the causes of this phenomenon and the possibility of its recurrence in the near future, as well as about safety measures.

"Unfortunately, today our knowledge is insufficient to say with certainty that the earthquake was the main event and it will not be followed by a stronger earthquake or a sequence of very strong aftershocks. But it is definitely necessary to note the fact that there was no aftershock process on the first day after the earthquake, which may indicate incomplete stabilization of the seismic process," said Boris Dzeboev.
