October 7, 2025. On October 6, 2025, Scientific Secretary of the GC RAS, PhD Roman Krasnoperov delivered the traditional lecture "Introduction to Space Geophysics and Cosmonautics", opening the lecture cycle as part of the special course "Satellite Geophysics" for second-year undergraduates of the Department of Geophysical Methods of the Earth Crust Exploration, Moscow State University.
During the lecture, the audience got acquainted with the key stages of space exploration and the exploration of our planet using space technologies. Special attention was paid to the development of the rocket industry and a landmark event in the history of the study of our planet – the International Geophysical Year (1957–1958), when a great technological breakthrough took place: first the USSR and then the United States launched the first artificial satellites into orbit. The first satellite missions provided the scientific community with unique information. Both historical and current space programs of Russia and other countries were analyzed in detail. Special emphasis was placed on research related to the study of the magnetic and gravitational fields of the planet, as well as on solving problems in the field of geodesy and geodynamics.
