October 16, 2025. Scientists from the GC RAS commented on media reports about catastrophic events in the Vesti program, aired on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.
The information about a huge gap being discovered in the Earth's magnetic field was addressed by D.Sc. Anatoly Soloviev, the Director of the Geophysical Center RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS. He stated: "This anomaly has already existed. However, it has evolved over time, drifting westward and expanding. In general, the Earth's magnetic field is weakening."
The danger of a devastating earthquake in North America was assessed by D.Sc. Alexey Morozov, a leading research scientist at the GC RAS: "Any strong earthquake occuring in the Pacific region are, of course, dangerous precisely because a strong tsunami is possible, and a tsunami can affect almost all countries along the Pacific coast."
