October 31, 2025. On October 30, 2025, the 14th meeting of the Joint Russian-South African Commission on Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS.
The meeting was opened for the Russian side by Ksenia Trinchenko, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The South African delegation was headed by Mr. Cecil Masoka, Director at the Department of Science and Technology in South Africa. Sergey Salikhov, PhD, Acting Rector of NUST MISiS, also delivered a welcoming speech.
During the meeting, representatives of leading scientific and educational organizations of Russia and South Africa discussed a potential cooperation in fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, geophysics, and space technology.
Roman Krasnoperov, PhD, Scientific Secretary of the GC RAS, delivered a presentation about promising areas of cooperation between the GC RAS and the South African National Space Agency in geophysics.
A significant focus of the reports was on scientific training and education. The Russian side confirmed its readiness to increase the number of postgraduate and undergraduate students admitted from South Africa. The parties also highly appreciated the fruitful cooperation within the BRICS framework.
