22 декабря 2025 г. On December 17, the final expanded meetings of the Board Plenum and the Presidium of the Free Economic Society of Russia (VEO of Russia) were held.

The main agenda items included the approval of the VEO of Russia’s activity report and the budget execution for 2025. Participants also discussed the work plans and budget for 2026. Among other matters considered were the expansion of the Society’s regional structure, the approval of editorial boards for its scientific and analytical publications, and other issues.

During the Board Plenum Meeting, an award ceremony was held to mark the 260th anniversary of the VEO of Russia. In recognition of his long-term work in organizing and chairing the Arctic Academic Forum, by the decision of the Board and the Presidium of the Free Economic Society, the anniversary medal "For Works Retribution" in honor of the 260th anniversary of the VEO of Russia was awarded to Academician of RAS Alexey Gvishiani, a Member of the Board, Chairman of the Scientific Council of RAS for the Studies of the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as the Arctic Academic Forum, Deputy Academician-Secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of RAS and Chief Scientist of the Geophysical Center of RAS.

The Free Economic Society of Russia was established by decree of Empress Catherine the Great in 1765. Since its foundation, the core mission has been to promote education, scientific progress, and the socio-economic and technological development of the country. The work of the VEO of Russia involves leading scientists and experts from Russia and around the world. The Society organizes comprehensive nationwide projects, in particular, in partnership with the Russian Academy of Sciences, the regular international Moscow Academic Economic Forum, which includes the Arctic Academic Forum.
