May 25, 2026. On May 25, 2026, The General Meeting of the RAS Department of Earth Sciences took place. Academician of RAS Mikhail Fedonkin, Head of the Section of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Mining Sciences of the RAS Department of Earth Sciences, delivered a report titled "On the Most Important Scientific Achievements in the Fields of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Mining Sciences Obtained by Russian Scientists in 2025".
Among the results noted as outstanding, achievements of the Geophysical Center RAS were presented. Scientists of the GC RAS have, for the first time, reliably established a 6-year quasi-periodicity in the geomagnetic secular acceleration pulses over 1932–2022. As the second outstanding result, Mikhail Fedonkin highlighted the development of a new methodology for constructing predictive isoseismal maps of epicentral zones of strong crustal earthquakes, based on retrospective modeling of tectonic stress fields in epicentral zones.
