July 16, 2026. From June 29 to July 7, 2026, scientists of the Geophysical Center RAS took part in the field section of the III International Scientific Conference "Dobretsov Readings: Science Firsthand", held in Novosibirsk and the Altai Mountains.
As part of the main conference section, held on June 29–30 in Novosibirsk, Director of the GC RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Anatoly Soloviev presented the report "Subdecadal Variations of the Earth's Main Magnetic Field Based on Geomagnetic Observatory Data". The report examined quasi-periodic variations of the secular acceleration of the Earth's magnetic field, identified from a 90-year series of observatory observations, and their connection with wave processes at the core–mantle boundary.
During the same section, Research Scientist Olga Shevaldysheva delivered a report on "Temperature, Density, and Material Heterogeneities of the Lithosphere and Upper Mantle of Northeastern Eurasia", presenting the results of integrated modeling of the gravitational field, vertical gravity gradients, seismotomographic data, and mineral physics.
The field section of the conference took place from July 1 to 7 in the Altai Mountains. Senior Research Scientist, PhD Dastan Akmatov presented a report on "The Modern Stress State and Kinematics of the Fault-Block Structure of the Caucasus Based on 3D Geomechanical Modeling". In the same section, Olga Shevaldysheva and Anatoly Soloviev presented a joint report on "A Web-Oriented Geographic Information System for Comprehensive Analysis of Lunar Spatial Data", dedicated to the new GC RAS geoportal "Comprehensive Lunar Database".
The scientific program of the conference was complemented by geological excursions through the Altai Mountains. Participants visited a number of unique geological sites, including formations of the Vendian–Early Ordovician Kuznetsk–Altai island-arc system, as well as Geyser Lake, the Kizyl-Chin tract known as "Altai Mars", and the picturesque Katun-Yaryk pass.
